When looking for a top-tier phone plan for watching the World Cup, we believe that Total Wireless should be at the top of your shopping list. This is because it feels, for the most part, like this phone plan is tailor-made for streaming sports, making it a brilliant companion for any World Cup aficionado this summer.
First of all, you get unlimited 5G data to use as you please, meaning you’ll never be caught with your pants down mid-match and need to top up your plan to access more data at high speeds.
Second, congestion can be a major issue when the whole world is tuning in to a single global event, and network speeds will usually suffer as a result. However, on a consistent basis, Verizon’s coverage has circumvented these issues, allowing streamers to keep watching the action in seamless 4K, usually without any hiccups.
Then thirdly, this plan also offers international roaming, which means that if you’re one of the lucky few traveling to watch a game live, but also want to watch other games before and after your live event, you’ll have that option without needing to pay through the nose for the privilege.
The only downside to this plan is that, with an unlimited plan, you almost always need to shoulder the burden of a speed cap, and that’s no different here. As this plan will cap your hotspot speed at 5 Mbps in most cases. This will mean that your ability to hotspot multiple devices will be affected, as well as your ability to multitask while watching games. So, if that’s important to you, you might want to shop around a little more.
Visible Plus
If you liked the offerings of Total Wireless overall, but simply couldn’t swing it because of the more premium model and price points, then you might like the ‘best value’ option, Visible Plus.
This package, in truth, is rather similar to Total Wireless in that it offers access to Ultra Wideband 5G, offers access to 50 GB of priority data, consistent speeds due to Verizon’s congestion handling, and international roaming to take the stress out of traveling, if that is your plan for this summer’s tournament.

However, this plan is still worth considering due to the lower prices, making it a brilliant option for those on a budget. As these plans can be up to $25 cheaper per month than the aforementioned Total Wireless plans.
When all is said and done, they are both superb plans, but in terms of bang for your buck, it’s hard to look past Visible Plus.
AT&T Unlimited Premium
We’ve already discussed a somewhat premium option in the form of Total Wireless, but if money is truly no option, then you might want to have a look at AT&T’s Unlimited Premium plan.
I would personally argue that what it offers is slightly excessive for what a sports fan needs, but there are cases where this might be the preferred plan. One being that this plan is easily the best option if you happen to be living in and streaming content from rural areas, as the LTE coverage is unmatched.
This, along with the unlimited plan’s much more generous speed caps, makes it a superb option for those who multitask or stream on the go. This service supports streaming on multiple devices in 4K, handles congestion in crowded areas with ease, and includes 100 GB of priority data.
However, the reality is that, for most people, the juice simply won’t be worth the squeeze. As these plans tend to start at $85 per month, which is very expensive, especially for a casual fan in a well-supported network area who only plans to stream in 720p, for example.
It’s very much the luxury option on this list, but to be completely fair, if you’re willing to pay the big bucks, you will enjoy near-flawless service and coverage during the World Cup. So, for a plan with no compromises, this is just the ticket.
Mint
I’ll concede that, to this point, all the top plans have been geared towards those who can afford mid-tier to premium-tier plans. So, allow us to change gears and shine a spotlight on a budget option that still offers great performance and coverage, Mint.
The cost is the biggest factor when choosing this plan over others, as you can sign up for as little as $30 a month if you pay upfront, and it may be cheaper with annual promotional deals. Meaning that this is easily the cheapest unlimited plan that we would consider worth investing in.
But this lower price doesn’t mean compromising, for the most part. As this plan still offers unlimited data, it still offers hotspot and priority data, and offers consistent speeds courtesy of T-Mobile’s 5G coverage.
However, there is a compromise that may be a dealbreaker for some football fans. This service is subject to deprioritization, which usually means a default stream quality of 480p and slower speeds during congestion spikes and after heavy usage.
This basically means that, if you’re someone who wants a crisp picture and seamless streaming of every match without compromise, this plan may not be for you. But if you’re willing to endure some minor hiccups to make some monumental savings, then Mint is probably the one for you.
US Mobile
Then, to wrap things up, we have a mid-tier plan that offers something that none of the other plans listed here can. Flexibility.
US Mobile’s unique angle is that it doesn’t rely on coverage from a single network. It gives you the ability to bounce between T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon. Which means that during peak times and congestion spikes, you will be able to switch to the network offering the fastest, most consistent performance. Something that can be a real boon when locked into a gripping game of football.
The caveat to this is that with this customizable setup comes a learning curve, as uninformed users likely won’t reap the rewards of this multi-network plan, as it requires understanding of networks, and the ability to proactively plan for the best results. Meaning ‘set it and forget it’ users aren’t the target for this plan.
Alongside this variety, you also get 50GB of priority data and hotspot allowance, international roaming perks, and unlimited data to ensure that you can always stream with the peace of mind that you’ll never need to add more data to your plan.
All of this, and you can get a plan with US Mobile for a very reasonable $40 per month, making it one of the most attractive mid-tier plans on the market. You will need to be pretty savvy with network settings, but if you are, this plan gives you an edge over other users, which can help you maintain consistent streams when others are struggling.
Conclusion: Total Wireless Is The Total Package
The all-around winner in our eyes is Total Wireless, as this service offers premium service and coverage, consistency, excellent congestion handling, and additional perks to sweeten the deal. All the while, never charging anywhere near as much as say AT&T Unlimited Premium. You’re getting a premium service at a reasonable price, and that’s hard to look past.
However, our wildcard option would absolutely be US Mobile, as this enthusiast option allows you to take control of your network coverage and hop to whatever network is offering the best speeds and consistency during times of congestion. A unique option that could make all the difference if you don’t want to miss a kick this summer.
