Our practice started looking for a Remedly alternative mainly because of rising costs, although workflow issues played a role too. If cost creep, an EMR-heavy interface, or day-to-day workflows that feel more clinical than necessary have you looking elsewhere, these six alternatives are worth considering:

Each platform takes a different approach to clinical documentation, client experience, and day-to-day practice management. Here’s how they compare on the features that will probably matter most to your team:

Of course, a feature list only tells you so much. Let’s look at where each platform really shines, and where you may run into tradeoffs.

1. Boulevard: Creating a Smoother Client Experience

One of the biggest issues we had with Remedly was the friction between a potential client deciding to book and actually getting onto the calendar. A lot of our clients look at treatments like laser resurfacing, chemical peels, and body contouring the same way they look at booking a dinner reservation or calling an Uber. They expect the process to be quick and seamless, especially when they click “Book Now” from an Instagram ad or influencer campaign.

Boulevard completely eliminates online booking friction. Actually, it eliminates a lot of friction, just about anywhere friction could be. Its customer-facing user interface is clean, minimalist, and deeply optimized for mobile devices. Clients can select a service, choose a provider and appointment time, and complete any required forms without moving through a long series of clinical screens first. Plus, the “Precision Scheduling” AI feature automatically displays time slots designed to prevent awkward calendar gaps and puts services in the right order at the time of booking. No one wants to show up for a facial and then be awkwardly directed onto the massage table afterward!

Boulevard offers custom client-facing hardware terminals, a front desk platform to die for, and many of the booking, payment, membership, package, and marketing tools we previously paid for separately. It also has a highly fluid checkout process. My team loves it. I love it. Our clients love it.

Boulevard has also added much stronger clinical functionality through its aesthetics and clinical offerings. Med spas can access HIPAA-supporting data controls, customizable digital forms and charting templates, photo documentation, image markup, treatment tracking, audit logs, and supervisor review workflows. ePrescribing is also available for eligible clinical accounts.

Where it Falls Short:

Boulevard is great in so many ways, but its biggest strengths are still on the booking, checkout, and client-experience side. Its clinical tools may be more than enough for a med spa offering relatively straightforward aesthetic treatments, but practices with highly specialized medical workflows should take a closer look before switching.

If your clinic focuses on surgical interventions, complex wellness programs, medical weight loss, direct lab ordering, or other specialty workflows, make a list of everything your team needs the software to handle. Boulevard may check more boxes than you expect, but you’ll still want to confirm that its clinical capabilities can fully replace the parts of Remedly your practice relies on.

2. Aesthetic Record: Offering a Mobile-Friendly Clinical Hybrid

Aesthetic Record was built for aesthetic practices, including high-volume, injector-led med spas. It falls somewhere in the middle of my recommendations, combining substantial medical charting with a more modern, mobile-friendly workflow.

Aesthetic Record, like Symplast, is designed as a mobile-first environment so it operates natively on iPads and smartphones. This can be great; your cosmetic injectors can manage their entire workflow without being chained to a desktop terminal. The platform also has a highly responsive touch-screen anatomical injection mapping system that allows providers to instantly drop injection sites onto a patient’s face, record precise unit counts, log batch numbers, and verify product expiration dates in seconds.

You’ll also find built-in before-and-after photo and video management, with images automatically connected to the patient’s medical chart and specific procedure.

Aesthetic Record has deep EMR capabilities like cloud-based ePrescribing, medical director oversight and chart sign-off workflows, HIPAA-compliant data safeguards, and highly detailed, customizable charting fields. Those fields can accommodate everything from body-contouring parameters to advanced laser settings.

Where it Falls Short:

The consumer booking part of this is definitely an upgrade over Remedly, but it doesn’t have the highly polished, hospitality-tier aesthetic of Boulevard. Aesthetic Record includes automated appointment emails and texts, two-way texting, and other basic communication tools, but practices looking for more advanced marketing automation may also need LeadAR or one of its outside integrations. Depending on the tools you choose, that can bring you right back to the original problem: cost creep.

3. AestheticsPro: Keeping Clinical Documentation Organized

Remedly is deeply rooted in traditional electronic health record (EHR) frameworks. So, plus side, this structure means every aesthetic interaction is treated like a medical event, which can help practices keep their documentation thorough and consistent. On the negative side, it means so. Many. clicks. So many. 

In our experience, even a routine treatment can require clicking through rigid clinical menus, desktop drop-downs, and multiple sign-offs. Our injector once spent 10 minutes documenting a 15-minute appointment. We still need thorough records, of course, but the admin work shouldn’t take nearly as long as the treatment itself.

That’s where I like AestheticsPro. AestheticsPro is a cloud-based practice management platform designed explicitly for medical spas that prioritize detailed records, customizable documentation, and strong data-security controls.

It’s a good operational fit for practices operating under strict state medical board requirements, or clinics that manage multi-layered teams across various license tiers such as MDs, NPs, PAs, RNs, and estheticians. It gives you exceptionally deep, structured electronic medical records, deeply customizable patient intake portals, and formal medical director review loops. Nothing in a client/patient chart is happening without proper authorization. 

The platform can handle detailed medical histories, informed consent forms, photos and documents, customizable treatment records, and ePrescribing. AestheticsPro also offers two-factor authentication and encryption to help practices protect patient information.

Where it Falls Short:

AestheticsPro has a lot to offer, but it might fall short if you want a modern interface. In our experience, the interface feels dated, the platform has a steep learning curve for new employees, and its patient-facing online booking engine lacks anything close to the frictionless experience you get with some of the other options on this list. Honestly, it may compete with Remedly for which software creates the most friction at booking.

4. Nextech Med Spa: Supporting More Complex Practices

Nextech is built around specialty medical practices and can support high-volume operations, multiple locations, integrated surgical services, and med spas that overlap with plastic surgery, dermatology, wellness, or other medical care. Its connected platform gives leadership teams access to reporting, centralized inventory oversight, and shared client data across providers and locations.

The EMR depth is unmatched. Nextech offers aesthetics-specific charting, integrated photography, customizable documentation, ePrescribing, telemedicine, billing and payment tools, and workflows designed to support clinical compliance. It won’t shy away from more complicated documentation, wellness and weight-loss services, or practices balancing cosmetic treatments with deeper medical needs.

Where it Falls Short:

It is there to support operational complexity, but that also means you need to pay close attention to exactly what you’re signing up for. Nextech doesn’t publish one flat price, and the final cost can vary depending on your practice size and the features you need. Ask for a complete quote that includes implementation, data migration, training, and any additional products before you commit.

But if you have a small or mid-sized commercial med spa, or your focus is primarily high-volume retail aesthetics, this is just way too much for you.

5. Symplast: Supporting Mobile-First Workflows

Symplast was founded by a plastic surgeon much the way Boulevard was created by spa/salon experts. The central purpose of Symplast was to eliminate the desk-bound nature of older EHRs. In effect, the platform was built around smart devices, allowing providers to manage more of their work without constantly returning to a desktop computer.

If your team prefers using phones or tablets to manage patient engagement, schedules, communication, and charting, Symplast might be a good alternative to Remedly or Boulevard. Providers can use voice-to-text and AI-assisted documentation tools to log chart notes between appointments, potentially reducing back-office typing delays.

It also has substantial clinical functionality, including mobile ePrescribing, customizable EHR templates, before-and-after photo management, secure cloud storage, and in-app image annotation. Your team gets built-in telemedicine tools, too, for remote patient consults and post-procedure check-ins. Pretty dope.

Symplast is mobile-first, but it isn’t mobile-only. Your team can access the platform through iPhones, iPads, and standard office computers. It also offers integrated payments, CRM and marketing tools, along with outside integrations for areas such as patient imaging, lead tracking, ePrescribing, loyalty programs, and claims management.

Where it Falls Short:

Symplast’s mobile-first design is one of its biggest selling points, but it may not be the right fit for every team. If your providers prefer working from wide, multi-column desktop screens, make sure they test the desktop experience during the demo rather than assuming they’ll adjust to a more mobile-centered workflow.

6. Zenoti: Managing Multi-Location Growth

One issue we ran into with Remedly was the POS, particularly as it related to processing retail and memberships. In a high-margin medical spa, recurring membership  and loyalty programs can account for a significant chunk of income. For us, it’s an average of 30%. 

So, it helps to have software that not only supports adding these items at checkout but can process benefits and discounts easily. In our experience, Remedly’s POS felt a bit detached from the front-desk checkout workflow. Staff had to click through a lot of screens to bundle a skincare product with a service, apply membership discounts, or split a payment between retail commissions and service commissions.

Zenoti can handle these processes really well, especially for a larger, multi-location med spa. Its POS connects with memberships, packages, loyalty benefits, retail inventory, payments, and commission tracking, so staff can manage more of the checkout process in one place. 

Zenoti is a massive enterprise cloud infrastructure built to manage high-volume medical spa chains, franchise organizations, and private equity-backed aesthetic networks. I’ve worked with them before and they can handle some pretty impressive complexities like membership  and loyalty programs across 50 different locations internationally.

Its built-in EMR capabilities support structured injectable tracking linked directly to inventory, Surescripts ePrescribing, clinical charting, before-and-after photos, and digital intake and consent forms. Providers can record the product, dosage, lot number, expiration date, and treatment area, with inventory updating as the chart is completed.

Where it Falls Short:

Having said all that, Zenoti supports so much complexity because it is, by design, a complex platform. If you have a small, single-location boutique, you don’t necessarily need to stay away, but you should think carefully about how much of the system you will actually use.

In our experience, the interface can feel clunky simply because there are so many features, settings, and workflows packed into it. The learning curve may also be steeper than it would be with a more streamlined platform, especially if you need to configure memberships, inventory, commissions, clinical records, and permissions across several locations. Zenoti does include onboarding support and training resources, but your team should still be prepared to invest time in implementation.

Summing Up

Do you want a system engineered more like a medical fortress, with deeper documentation, clinical workflows, and multidisciplinary oversight? Or do you prefer a digital experience engine designed to improve booking, checkout, memberships, and the overall client experience? Maybe you need something somewhere in between.

If you want strong specialty medical support and the ability to manage more complicated clinical workflows, Nextech is probably the place to start. If you want frictionless booking and a true digital experience, go with Boulevard.

Aesthetic Record and Symplast sit more comfortably in the middle, combining substantial clinical tools with mobile-friendly workflows. AestheticsPro is a stronger fit if structured records and compliance tools matter more to you than a sleek booking experience. And if you are managing several locations, complex memberships, inventory, and a lot of operational moving parts, Zenoti may be worth the heavier lift.
