In my experience working with spa software I have dealt with a lot of glitches and limitations not just for myself as the employee but for our customers.
Boulevard was introduced as a new option in 2016, and Manogmint the year after, both of which have a substantial leg up on previous competitors. But how do they compare?
The Short Answer
Boulevard gives you much more bang for your buck. As a spa or salon owner, you want to get the most out of your tools and that means a platform that doesn’t have overly complex features, fits within tight margins, and has all of your tech stack in a single location.
That’s what Boulevard offers. It has just the right number of features, with integrated systems for things like email marketing, inventory, and scheduling, and a lot of actionable insights. As for employees and customers, the user interface is the simplest one I’ve ever seen and makes communication, updates, and scheduling seamless.
Quick Rundown: The Main Differences Between Mangomint and Boulevard
Mangomint is ideal for solopreneurs or tightly-run teams who want sleek scheduling and a modern interface, Boulevard is better suited to salons and medspas that want to scale and need layered permissions, advanced marketing tools, and real-time support.
While Mangomint is lightweight on features like built-in referrals and memberships, Boulevard includes loyalty programs and recurring billing options out of the box.
While Mangomint stands out for its clean interface and smart automation, like Express Booking and auto-confirmation, Boulevard adds support for HIPAA-compliant client records and customizable intake forms. This won’t matter for all businesses, but for med spas, Boulevard’s extra compliance features may be a deciding factor.
While Mangomint offers flexible scheduling, Boulevard includes smart service sequencing—automatically arranging appointments in the ideal order, which can be especially helpful for multi-step treatments in med spas and salons.
About Boulevard
Boulevard is a cloud-based spa and salon software that offers advanced marketing features, internal two-way messaging, integration with dozens of apps including Instagram, Quickbooks, and Shopify as well as a strong set of core features that meet the needs of small, medium, and large businesses.
About Mangomint
Mangomint is a newer salon software that has the highest customer service ratings across the United States and Canada. It provides enhanced customer communication tools, integrated payroll options, sophisticated marketing, and intelligent automation.
The idea behind Mangomint’s design is to provide a smart and easy to use form of software that essentially disappears into the background, unnoticed but efficient.
What Differentiates Boulevard from Mangomint: Top 7 Comparisons
So, how do these two compare side-by-side?
#1: User Interface
One of the things I noticed right away was that Boulevard simply felt better. It felt like everything I needed was exactly where I expected it to be, and nothing was difficult to find. No matter what it was I was looking to do, it was intuitive, and I was able to seamlessly complete to-do lists day in and day out.
I later realized that the founders worked in salons and they developed tech based on real-world frustrations. That was why all of my normal frustrations weren’t there. It was built by insiders who knew exactly what made alternative salon and spa software so frustrating, and they fixed it.
I didn’t dislike Mangomint by any means. It has a sleek, modern design that’s very user-friendly. It just felt like Mangomint was built for salons while Boulevard was built by salons.
What stands out for Mangomint: Platform
They have an Express Booking option.
What stands out for Boulevard: Platform
Its seamless, simple interface.
#2: Tools
With Boulevard, you get an all-in-one-tool. This isn’t meant to be one part of your scheduling or reporting portfolio but rather a single place where you can access scheduling, POS, marketing, inventory, and reporting all in one.
The design of their features is not just for the benefit of companies and employees but for customers. The Front Desk View can be put on display in a waiting room offering clients an overview of who might be waiting before them, what appointments they have completed, and what appointments they currently have on the books.
I love that the client data can actually be used to improve client retention and sales and that the precision scheduling intuitively does things like a list of services in a single appointment in the order they should be executed (i.e., a massage before a facial), and a lot of flexibility on marketing and communication within the platform.
Mangomint offers things like open data ownership with no contracts, smart automations, and the ability to integrate with any other platform. It has a robust marketing suite that I think would be super helpful for businesses that need a little boost in that department but don’t necessarily have the budget.
What stands out for Mangomint: Tools
If marketing is your thing, the marketing suite with Manogmint is newer than Boulevard’s and the recently introduced automations let your spa or salon connect with specialized tools while still integrating your own email marketing.
What stands out for Boulevard: Tools
Boulevard has a calendar Front Desk View that you won’t get with Mangomint, and this is one of the most highly rated features they have.
#3: Price and Availability
Mangomint and Boulevard are priced fairly similarly. They’re not the cheapest spa software on the market, but they’re also not the most expensive by far. Expect to pay anywhere from $150 to $375 per month, depending on your plan and the size of your business. One thing to keep in mind is that Mangomint isn’t for any solopreneurs out there—it’s only for teams. Boulevard has plans to suit all sized businesses.
What stands out for Mangomint: Price and availability
Mangomint is available in Canada, but Boulevard isn’t.
What stands out for Boulevard: Price and availability
Boulevard is roughly $10 a month cheaper than Mangomint and supportive of all sizes, including solo enterprises.
#4: High-Touch Support
A lot of companies hesitate to change software even if they are deeply unhappy with their current provider because the onboarding process can be a nightmare. It takes a lot both emotionally and operationally to shift to a new platform that employees and customers have to familiarize themselves with.
Mangomint does a lot for onboarding. In fact, if you read reviews, that’s one of the best things they have to offer, mostly because the customer service end of the onboarding process is so widely available. They have the highest customer service rating in the market.
That being said, Boulevard also does a lot to offer trust-focused onboarding with live support, live onboarding taught by onboarding specialists, and live online options. You aren’t working with bots and Death-by-Powerpoint training checklists.
What stands out for Mangomint: Support
If you want to prioritize customer service, Mangomint is it. They have, hands down, the best rated customer service.
What stands out for Boulevard: Support
If you want an easy onboarding process led by experts and not pre-recorded videos and FAQ pages, Boulevard is it.
#5: Checkout and Features
When you look into the features in closer detail, they look almost exactly the same. Boulevard, however, doesn’t have an automated check-in process or a self-checkout process, nor does it have a full-featured mobile app.
This means that you still need staff to be present when customers are checking in and out for their appointments. Personally, I think this speaks to a higher quality of professionalism; when I book a new service as a new client, I hate walking into an empty space, unsure of what to do.
Of course, not everyone has the budget or staff for a full-time receptionist. Mangomint allows customers to check in and out of appointments through the app, which can be a huge weight off for leaner teams that need to streamline operations. However, I noticed that Mangomint was missing a few useful features—like the ability to tip on a service or reschedule an appointment.
What stands out for Mangomint: Checkout
If you want customers to be able to check in and out of appointments easily without the need for a full-time receptionist, Mangomint is perfect.
What stands out for Boulevard: Checkout
If you want top-tier communication within one platform, including the ability to tip, the Boulevard features give you that, but they don’t offer self-checkout or full features for mobile.
#6: Integrations
Tangentially, one of the biggest selling points of Mangomint is the integration capabilities: you can build custom Integrations with anything that is possible to integrate. However, without paying additional money, you are left with simple native Integrations like Mailchimp and Shopify.
Boulevard actually has a wider range of Integrations that come with standard memberships, including Reserve with Google, Quickbooks, Facebook and Instagram, and Shopify.
If you only need a few integrations and don’t want to pay extra, go with Boulevard. If you want to customize your integrations and don’t mind the extra cost, Mangomint will give you the most options.
What stands out for Mangomint: Integrations
You can customize your integrations (at an additional cost).
What stands out for Boulevard: Integrations
You get a lot of key integrations in each membership.
#7: Modern Interface
This might not matter to a lot of people, but I think first impressions matter.
At the risk of sounding like a total nerd—I can attest that my first impression of Boulevard was, “Wow!”
Everything from the layout to the typography just made sense. It was polished and professional without feeling cold or overly minimal. You can tell it was designed by people who have actually worked in salons—the interface reflects real-world priorities: quick access to key functions, clear visual hierarchy, and just the right amount of emphasis where it matters (like booking, notifications, or unread messages).
Mangomint, on the other hand, felt a bit more stylized—almost gamified. The layout is heavier on visual flair, which some might love, but I found it a little distracting and less intuitive. It looks modern, but in practice, I spent more time looking for things. Boulevard strikes a better balance: it looks good and works well, which makes it easier to stay focused on your actual job.
What stands out for Mangomint: Interface
If you have a younger employee base and you want something that looks more like a game app on their phone, this could be a great fit.
What stands out for Boulevard: Interface
The interface is a testament to simplicity and efficiency. All of the necessary features are there so that you aren’t paying to only use 25% of your available features.
Summing Up
Boulevard supports every touchpoint—before, during, and after the appointment, whereas one of the biggest downsides to Mangomint is the missing core features for a comprehensive client experience, like changing or rescheduling appointments and tipping after a service when paying.
Despite the fact that Manogmint has a holistic design to their platform, and that both offer similarly robust reporting features and customer data leverage, I am drawn to Boulevard. Their interface is cleaner, sleeker, and more professional-looking, with simple features that improve client communication for new and existing clients. A lot of internal headaches are automatically eliminated thanks to the insider insights built into the system.
If your business prioritizes sleek design and time-saving automations—and you’re not managing a large team or clinical workflows—Mangomint is an excellent choice. But if you need more built-in client retention tools, HIPAA support, or are growing into ecommerce and membership models, Boulevard may be the better long-term fit.
