Tools like LaunchNotes and AnnounceKit are purpose-built to help teams navigate between managing their roadmap and ensuring essential product updates and announcements reach the right customers and users.
Choosing the right tool for your business can help ease the administrative burden of managing each task on its own and ensure you maintain consistency and accuracy across various product features.
The right platform for you will ultimately come down to specific features you need, tasks you need to automate, or pain points you’re looking to address. Both LaunchNotes and AnnounceKit have strong communication capabilities, but also offer differing degrees of complexity when it comes to specific standout features and capabilities like segmentation, roadmap management, and user insights.
TL;DR:
LaunchNotes is an excellent fit for medium to large-scale organizations that need to deliver high-quality, polished multi-channel announcements and help align internal and external stakeholders to critical product updates. LaunchNotes excels in its roadmap management, advanced segmentation and cohorts, pre-built announcement templates, and AI-assisted features.
AnnounceKit is a great, light-weight option that is best suited for small to medium-sized businesses that are strongly focused on user insights and sentiments and strong NPS capabilities. Quick View of LaunchNotes
LaunchNotes is a great all-around product management tool for organizations that need advanced control over multiple areas, such as roadmap management, user segmentation, branding, and internal and external communications.
Quick View of AnnounceKit
AnnounceKit is a strong platform for businesses that need to create and manage targeted communications quickly and easily with minimal setup time. With insights and analytics into NPS and user feedback, it’s a great option for product teams who are looking at tracking subscriber feedback.
Feature Comparison: Launchnotes vs Announcekit
1. Roadmap Management
Launchnotes:
LaunchNotes has a well-structured roadmap that is easy to set up and manage through a basic workflow.
LaunchNotes has great drag-and-drop features, meaning you can easily navigate through various stages, which are customizable based on your requirements.

I really liked LaunchNotes subscriber updates that can be set up when customizing the roadmap. The subscriber updates allow you to send email notifications based on your personalized stages, which is a great way to keep specific users informed of any critical changes.

AnnounceKit:
In comparison, Announcekit’s layout is very similar and also offers drag and drop functionality.
Both tools have really easy-to-configure and customize roadmaps. I like tools that allow you to customize stages, making it more relevant for your product team.

You can also hide your roadmap on your widgets or changelogs, which may, in some instances, allow a better experience depending on your audience and whether your roadmap needs to be public or internal only.

You can also set your changelog to display publicly or not; however, these features are available on the paid plans only:

2. Posts, Announcements & Product Release Notes
When it comes to creating release notes, announcements, or posts, both tools are easy to use and have pre-created templates, AI-assistance, and digest features, which help roll up multiple announcements into a single post or email, depending on the tool.
LaunchNotes Announcement Features:
LaunchNotes has quite a few templates to choose from based on typical product release notes categories.

I like that templates come with pre-filled copy that you can edit and add images or other media, including links, videos, and even Jira issues.

You can easily add categories, labels, or link your announcement to roadmap items from your announcement page.

Another great feature I liked is LaunchNotes AI-assistance, which can help you draft engaging or optimized content depending on your goal.
This is a great way to help product teams generate markdown content or add in relevant eye-catching headings or emojis, in a way that is usable across platforms or widgets.

Some of the Other Features I Liked About LaunchNotes for Announcements:
- Scheduled announcements can be drafted and scheduled to send at pre-defined dates & times, which is a great way to save time and automate important updates.
- Preview versions help ensure your format looks professional and polished, without waiting until it’s been published to realize that you’re missing key elements.
- Edits of announcements are auto-saved, which is a great reassurance when making changes on the fly.
- Digests can be used to roll up a set of announcements and sent to your subscribers at a predefined time or date.
AnnounceKit Announcement Features:
AnnounceKit, in comparison, also has templates and a more recently launched AI assistant.
The predefined templates are barebones layouts and would likely require quite some tweaking to be reusable and suitable for detailed and relevant communication types.

The AnnounceKit AI-assistant helps you generate AI-optimized content depending on your goal. Jira and Linear will be sources that you can import from in the near future as well, which is an excellent feature if you’re already using one of these tools!

I found the AI-assistant a little buggy and not that user-friendly in comparison to LaunchNotes. The user interface needs some improvements, which I expect to be ironed out over time.
The AI-assistant is limited to a concise description of the feature, which largely limits the relevance and accuracy of the output.

Some of the Other Features I Liked About AnnounceKit for Announcements:
- User segmentation can be set up easily to enable relevant audiences to see targeted announcements.
- A feature called “Boosters” can further split out communications to be categorized based on your preferred layout, such as email, modal, pop-ups, widgets, or banners.
- Email digests enable you to summarize a set of announcements or posts that can be scheduled to be sent to email subscribers at a specific time and date.
3. Feedback and Idea Management
Both LaunchNotes and Announcekit have capabilities built in to help manage user feedback, sentiments, and ideas so that these can help drive better product decisions and strategies.
LaunchNotes Feedback and Idea Features:
LaunchNotes has a dedicated feedback and idea management feature set that I really found easy to use and set up.
You can manually add this on behalf of users or stakeholders who may have provided this feedback. I like that the feedback or submitted ideas can be directly linked to roadmap items, which can then be prioritized easily by your product team.

Users can also submit ideas or feedback directly from the announcements page or via the roadmap, which helps target users right where they’re seeing your updates.

I like that you can gather critical feedback easily via multiple streams and ensure users can easily subscribe to important updates or roadmap items.

AnnounceKit Feedback and Idea Features:
Similar to LaunchNotes, Announcekit has a dedicated feedback and idea management area where you can manually add or import user feedback.
I like that you can also make the feature request public or internal, or add tags at this level.

Like LaunchNotes, users can suggest features or subscribe to notifications directly on AnnounceKit’s announcements page.

Users or customers can also submit their feedback via the widget, which can be created easily on the app, which is a significant value-add. I did, however, find that you need to scroll all the way to the bottom of the feed to locate the feedback widget. Gathering user insights and sentiments is a crucial way to gauge satisfaction, and you can monitor your overall NPS from within the tool.

As a great value add, you can automatically generate a ticket, add upvotes (which include optional sources), and manage the feature request from within the tool:

4. Segmentation Features
Both LaunchNotes and AnnounceKit have segmentation features within the tool. These can be configured depending on your needs and requirements for roadmap and announcements.
LaunchNotes User Segmentation and Cohorts:
LaunchNotes has advanced options for users who need to set up segmentation or cohorts.
Users can subscribe to receive updates on roadmap items, for announcements, or be manually added.

Cohorts are a further step in advanced segmentation, which allows you to set up a list or group of subscribers. I like the fact that you can set up a cohort to target a specific domain or groups of specified individual users, allowing you to send important communications (via email or on the product updates page) based on a category or notification, regardless of whether users have subscribed or not.
This is ideal for scenarios where you may want to split out communications based on a product set, environment, or different subscription plans, for example.

AnnounceKit Segmentation Features:
AnnounceKit also has segmentation or subscription capabilities. Once a user has opted to sign up for updates (which can be done via email, RSS, or Slack), they’ll be notified of important updates.

You can further segment your users based on those who have subscribed or via import. You can then create and filter segmented users or profiles.

Once segmented, you can filter based on your chosen criteria to help narrow down your audience and send targeted communications that are relevant and specific.

LaunchNotes vs AnnouncKit: My Bottom Line
Both LaunchNotes and Announcekit are great options for teams looking to optimize announcements and communications for important product updates.
Ultimately, choosing the best fit will come down to your individual product needs and goals as a business.
