Boulevard is a relatively new contender in the salon software marketplace. It was designed by professionals with real salon experience, and that really shows in small, but impactful ways.

On average, after switching to Boulevard for at least 90 days, your salon will see:

  • 16% more services booked
  • 18% more retail sales
  • 71% fewer late cancellations and no show
  • 24% more gratuity from clients

But is all that really worth the price? I’ll dive into all of their membership tiers and find out.

Up front, Boulevard is a great platform for anyone from solo operators to salons to med spas. That’s pretty clear in their models; they offer three key levels of pricing plans for spas and salons and then two rather comparable levels for med spas, almost all of which have the same functions but differ in terms of what you get for free each month when it comes to email communication and two-way text messaging, the storage capacity you have, and whether your system supports multiple locations.

An Overview of Boulevard Salon Software Pricing Plans

Let me start by saying all of the Boulevard software plans for salons and spas come with 10% off if you pay annually as opposed to monthly.

That said, the software pricing plans are different for salons and spas versus med spas. I’ll go over each separately.

Boulevard Pricing Plans for Salons and Spas

For salons and spas, Boulevard has three tiers:

  • Essentials: $176 per month, per location if you pay monthly OR $159 per month, per location if you pay annually
  • Premier: $293 per month, per location if you pay monthly OR $263 per month, per location if you pay annually
  • Prestige: $410 per month, per location if you pay monthly OR $369 per month, per location if you pay annually

Let’s look at each feature in more detail.

Scheduling:

Scheduling for all three plans includes:

  • Online booking
  • Precision Scheduling
  • Email reminders
  • Text reminders
  • Dedicated booking line
  • Caller ID
  • Waitlist
  • Processing and finishing times
  • Multi-staff appointments
  • Manage check-in and walk-ins
  • Booking deposit

Only Premier and Prestige have:

  • Group booking
  • Resource scheduling

Client Management:

With regard to two-way texting, there are different limits for each plan: Essentials has 100 free two-way texts per month, Premier has 250 and Prestige has 2,500.

All three plans include:

  • Conversation history
  • Universal client profiles
  • Custom tags
  • Account balances
  • Memberships and autopay
  • Series and packages
  • Client-specific prices
  • Client-specific durations

Only Premier and Prestige include:

  • Shared memberships

Only Premier and Prestige have the add-on option for:

  • Photo markup and supervisor sign off

Only Prestige includes:

  • Forms and charts (Premier and Essentials have the option to add on)

Inventory Management:

All three include:

  • Product catalog
  • Quantity tracking
  • Adjustments
  • Shrinkage reporting

Only Premier and Prestige include:

  • Prepaid product units
  • Purchase orders

Payment Processing:

All three plans include:

  • Credit and debit card processing
  • Apple and Google pay
  • NFC payments
  • Saved client credit cards
  • Mobile app checkout
  • Multi-tender transactions
  • Refunds and partial refunds
  • Barcode scanner compatibility
  • Receipt printer compatibility
  • Discounts and price overrides
  • Emails receipts
  • Cash management
  • Gift cards and certificates
  • Multi-merchant transaction

Staff Management:

All three plans include:

  • Staff profiles
  • Timeclocks
  • Staff scheduling
  • Staff-specific prices
  • Staff-specific durations
  • User roles and permissions
  • Professional app
  • Commission tracking

Marketing:

Essentials offers 500 free email blasts per month. Premier gives you 1000 and Prestige offers 10,000. Pretty big difference in scale.

All three give you free texts for text marketing in your plan, and automated campaigns that only cost $2 per completed appointment.

However, Essentials stops there in terms of marketing benefits.

Premier and Prestige include:

  • Free texts in each plan
  • Email campaign reporting
  • Offer codes and promotions
  • Referral programs
  • Ratings and feedback
  • Loyalty programs
  • Google analytics
  • Meta pixel

Reports and Insights:

All three plans include:

  • Standard and advanced reports
  • Data drilldowns
  • Email reports
  • Gift card liability tracking
  • Commission reports

Franchise and Location Management:

Essentials does not offer any support for franchise and location management. So this won’t be a good plan if you are a salon with multiple locations. Solo operators, though, don’t need this level of support.

Premier and Prestige include:

  • Multi-location support
  • Multi-location reporting
  • Location-level billing
  • Inter-location AR/AP reporting

Customer Service:

All three plans include:

  • Email support and live chat support

The Bottom Line for Salons and Spas

Ok so, what are the key differences here between each tier and when does it make sense to pay more for Premier or Prestige?

Solo operators can get away with the Essentials, which is aptly named because it’s ideal for a single location with 500 free email blasts and 100 free two-way texts per month. This means you get all of the other benefits when it comes to scheduling and client management as well as payment processing but you don’t have to overpay for things that really only apply to larger salons with multiple locations and multiple clients.

Larger salons and spas then have to decide whether Premier or Prestige is better for their needs.

Price wise, the difference between Essentials and Premier is about twice the cost, so it’s a big jump but the difference between Premier and Prestige only increases by around 30%, so the jump isn’t as large.

However, the marketing support changes drastically. Your number of email blasts increases 10 times, as do your two-way text options. So, at that point you can use add-on features to get what you need, for example if you have multiple locations or if you have a larger client base. However, you will absolutely need to jump to the highest level as soon as you have hundreds (or even thousands) of clients for whom you provide regular monthly communication.

If you need prepaid product units, purchase orders, or forms and charts, then you get into the “med spa” territory where you have to compare Prestige to the two med spa plans.

Boulevard Pricing Plans for Med Spas

For med spas, there are two options:

  1. Aesthetics Starter Bundle: $410 per month, per location if you pay monthly OR $369 per month, per location if you pay annually.
  2. Aesthetics Bundle: $468 per month, per location if you pay monthly OR $421 per month, per location if you pay annually.

Both options are HIPAA compliant with powerful forms and charting and unlimited professionals, but the key differences lie in the storage capacity you get and the number of free email blasts and free texts.

Let’s look at each feature in more detail.

  • Manage check-in and walk-ins
  • Booking deposits
  • Group booking

The Bottom Line for Med Spas

As a med spa, the “beginner” package for a small med spa is really only different in terms of your client base. The Aesthetics Bundle has 10x the support for:

  1. Email blasts
  2. Two way texts

It also has twice the storage.

It is also only around 13% more in overall price, regardless of whether you pay monthly or annually.

However, the good news is you aren’t sacrificing on any of the other features if you are a smaller med spa. So kudos to Boulevard for that. They don’t deprive you of anything good or worthwhile for your business. They are precise in their pricing plan differences; only scaling costs for scaling client bases.

I have zero complaints here.

It is really designed to support you based on the size of your team, and that is outstanding.

Final Thoughts About Boulevard Salon Software Pricing

For a solo stylist, someone renting a chair, or a large business with multiple locations, Boulevard can be a full-featured, flexible tool that gives you more than enough tools and tricks to centralize most of your business operations. The most expensive plan might be just that, expensive, but it also comes with enough features to do away with many of your other investments (like multiple platforms each designed as a unitasker). And if you don’t want to spend hundreds each month, their entry level plan is just as affordable as many competitors today.

If you are a medspa looking at these two membership plans, the biggest delineator is going to be your size and whether you have multiple locations you need to support, but otherwise, Boulevard is really great about making sure every business of all sizes, from solo operators up to large-scale multi-location facilities, have the key features they need to be successful.
