If you’re seeking to compare the likes of Leadpages vs Unbounce software, then you certainly know a thing or two about building landing pages

While there are numerous conversion channels used by businesses on their websites, landing pages are particularly popular because of their efficacy. In essence, 48% of digital marketers typically set up a new landing page for every single campaign they engage in.

But sadly, the subsequent results turn out to be disappointing for most individuals. So far, only 22% of businesses can claim that their current conversion rates are satisfactory. The rest are seemingly struggling to find a solid framework capable of generating a steady flow of conversions over the long haul.

That said, it just so happens that the process of building and testing landing pages is among the top five challenges for marketers. Although they realize the importance of landing pages, many marketers are yet to establish an effective system for creating them.

Now, there are two principal approaches to building a landing page. You could either do it the hard way or take the simplified option.

The hard way basically entails coding everything from the ground up. Although this method is dynamically flexible, let’s face it- today’s marketers are not that skilled. Only a handful can manage to work comfortably with a coding language.

And that brings us to the second option. A landing page tool like Leadpages or Unbounce provide a straightforward framework for creating and managing landing pages. They handle the underlying code while you tweak various elements through a graphical interface.

Pretty simple and convenient, I admit. The only problem, however, is that this approach doesn’t offer the same level of flexibility as coding. Your capabilities rather depend on the functionalities and features availed by your landing page builder (landing page software).

In other words, therefore, there’s simply no room for compromises when it comes to choosing your page building tools.

Bottom Line Up Front: If you are just starting out and looking for an affordable option, start with Leadpages here. However, if you are a growing business in need of testing, data, and advanced tracking, stick with Unbounce here

So, how about we finally settle the Leadpages vs Unbounce debate?

Main Differences Between Leadpages vs Unbounce

The main differences between Leadpages and Unbounce are:

  • Leadpages allows more flexible integration into your existing site, whereas Unbounce requires webmasters to use a subdomain on their site
  • Leadpages has a cheaper entry price point at $37 per month, whereas Unbounce starts at $90 per month
  • Leadpages offers full integration with Facebook, whereas Unbounce does not integrate with Facebook
  • Leadpages allows you to create an unlimited number of pages, whereas Unbounce limits you based on pricing tiers
  • Leadpage limits A/B testing to higher-tier plans, whereas Unbounce enables A/B testing on All of their plans
  • Unbounce has more built-in functionality for PPC campaigns and tracking compared to Leadpages
  • Unbounce has more professional designs out of the box compared to Leadpages

Leadpages vs Unbounce – Overview

Leadpages Reviews and Overview

Leadpages was launched in 2012 and has since been trying to revolutionize the entire process of creating landing pages. It offers a smooth, user-friendly system for setting up attractive landing pages, plus customizing them accordingly.

leadpages home page

Since Leadpages comes with a graphical editor, you don’t need any technical knowledge to create your own unique landing pages. Simply choose a suitable template, and then customize it by dragging and dropping elements while defining their corresponding variables.

From the look of things, such features have accelerated the growth of Leadpages over the years. And consequently, it has managed to secure its position among the most dominant page builders on the web.

Don’t get me wrong though. Although page building is the primary function here, Leadpages has a lot more going on.

In addition to its pre-designed templates, for instance, Leadpages provides an array of advanced modules to integrate with your landing pages. You could capitalize on video backgrounds, countdown timers, and call-to-action buttons, among other supplementary components.

But, that’s not all. Leadpages also allows users to create Facebook Ads for promoting their landing pages. And when the traffic finally starts flowing in (whether organic or PPC campaigns), it’s possible to accept payments directly from the landing pages.

Launched in 2009, Unbounce is now about a decade old and well known in the digital marketing community. It was founded by a group of 6 professionals, whose fundamental objectives were to help marketers grow their businesses via effective conversion resources.

Well, Unbounce itself has managed to live up to that by availing specialized design and marketing automation tools- top of which, of course, is a systematic landing page builder and editor. It’s built to offer users a complete design experience without any form of coding.

unbounce home page

And just like the Leadpages platform, Unbounce goes ahead and provides a couple of extra webpage elements. You can, for example, set up and customize onsite pop-ups, complete with a defined targeting framework.

And when you ultimately roll out your campaign, Unbounce tracks the relevant parameters to provide crucial performance analytics (real-time analytics / integrated conversion analytics) beyond basic Google Analytics. That way, you’ll be able to review the insights and adjust various variables to optimize the whole conversion system.

Leadpages vs Unbounce – Features

Ease of Use

Leadpages Ease of Use

One particularly outstanding thing about Leadpages is its 2-page editors. While most website builders offer just a drag-and-drop editor, Leadpages has gone ahead and availed a second option.

Well, in my opinion, the Leadpages drag-and-drop editor is pretty simple and neat. Although some design experience would help, you don’t need any technical knowledge here. As a matter of fact, you only need a couple of minutes to get a hang of its editing tools.

Despite the simplicity that comes with this drag-and-drop editor, Leadpages attempts to make things much easier through an alternate static editor landing page tool. It offers a more straightforward way of working on the page templates.

But, make no mistake. The static editor cannot match up to its drag-and-drop counterpart in terms of customization options. The learning curve is bound to be steeper with the latter, but you’ll eventually be able to edit your pages quite extensively.

While you’re at it, you’ll notice that Leadpages also comes with supplementary elements like Leadboxes, icon library, and countdown timer, all of which are meant to make your work easier. The countdown timer, for instance, comes in handy when you need to set up dynamically timed action triggers.

If you’re planning to take advantage of that to launch mailing list popups, it turns out you can also convert visitors away from your website. Leadpages allows you to send them emails, from where they can simply opt into your mailing list (integrates with many email marketing systems) without being redirected back to the site.

And that’s not all. You can, alternatively, leverage Leaddigits to hunt for additional subscribers. This system fundamentally increases your conversion capabilities by engaging leads via text messaging.

Unbounce Ease of Use

Unlike Leadpages, Unbounce comes with a single landing page editor. Interestingly, however, you don’t need an alternative option at all. Unbounce has managed to achieve a perfect balance between simplicity and dynamic customization.

Well, the editing process here basically uses a pixel-precise drag-and-drop interface. Now, combine that with Unbounce’s rich array of templates, and you’ll be able to get your pages up and running in no time. The whole customization process is as simple as dragging a couple of elements, moving them around the layout, and defining their properties.

unbounce create a new landing page

That said, a beginner might take time to learn everything about each editing tool. But, once they do, they should be able to capitalize on the whole Unbounce system to build powerful multifaceted landing pages.

In case of any issues along the way, you can turn to the large Unbounce user community for help. It’s always very active and helpful, especially when it comes to technical matters like coding.

Verdict – Leadpages vs Unbounce? (Draw)

In addition to providing numerous pre-designed templates, both Leadpages and Unbounce come with easy to use drag-and-drop landing page editors. And each of them supports a wide range of customization options.

Their individual layouts, however, are quite different since Leadpages offers a column-based drag and drop editor, while Unbounce comes with a pixel-precise one.

Then to serve unskilled beginners, Leadpages avails a simpler secondary static editor. But, unfortunately, its customization capabilities are very limited. But, unfortunately, it’s customization capabilities are very limited. That notwithstanding, Leadpages offers more supplementary tools than Unbounce.

Templates

Leadpages Templates

By default, Leadpages currently provides more than 500 templates for pre-formatted landing page design options and websites. If you’re on a budget, you can get over 200 free options for various site categories. But, if you’d fancy a high converting landing page, you’ll have to settle for a premium option.

Leadpage templates

Interestingly, you cannot simply customize the templates on any of the two Leadpages editors. It just so happens that each template is optimized for a specific editor. Among the free templates, for example, only 76 can support the drag-and-drop builder. The rest are built for the static standard editor.

But, whichever category you settle for, you can be certain that your template is designed to be mobile-responsive. In simple terms, all Leadpages templates adjust their layouts automatically according to the device display ratio.

Now, exploring over 500 options is not a walk in the park. But, thankfully, Leadpages has sorted them based on various relevant parameters.

You could, for instance, start off by choosing your preferred page type. Some of the listed options include webinar, upsell, thank you, newsletter signup, sales, checkout, and several other types of campaign pages.

Then to be more specific, you can sort your options further based on your industry category. Leadpages offers templates for startups, retail, real estate, photography, blogging, government, finance, education, e-commerce, agency, etc. So, of course, you’re bound to find an ideal set of options.

That notwithstanding, the ultimate sorting criteria here is the conversion rate. You can compare different Leadpages templates based on their conversion rates to identify the ones with the highest success potential.

But hang on a minute. How exactly does Leadpages establish the individual template conversion scores?

Well, for one thing, the comparison process here is not subjective. Leadpages rather analyzes data collected from thousands of its users over the years. Then subsequently, ranks the templates based on their respective conversion trends.

That’s fairly helpful when you need a template that’s been proven to be exceptionally effective. The only problem, however, is that Leadpages does not publish the precise template conversion scores. You can’t even determine how long sites have been using the templates. There are no comparative details- just Leadpages’ overall ranking. So, you have to take their word for it.

But, don’t feel over-compelled to go for the highest-ranked templates right off the bat. A template’s conversion potential, when you come to think of it, largely depends on how you eventually customize the whole layout.

Therefore, you might want to focus more on the overall design of the templates. And Leadpages, for your information, has quite a number of well-styled options that you can edit dynamically via the drag-and-drop builder.

While some of the decent drag-and-drop templates are free, the most attractive ones come at a premium price. They feature modern styles with neat, minimalistic layouts and full image backgrounds, among other design variances.

Quite a contrast compared to a couple of the free standard Leadpages templates, which might seem to be a bit bland and cluttered.

Unbounce Templates

Unbounce templates, for starters, are not as many as Leadpages’. The range of options here is about 125, which translates to 25% of what you get on Leadpages.

unbounce templates

But, don’t let the numbers fool you. Unbounce templates might be fewer, but every single one of them comes with features specifically optimized for conversion.

The designers at Unbounce have achieved this after keenly analyzing over 64,000 landing pages and the corresponding response patterns from 74 million site visitors. So, you can bet they have a good idea of what works, and more importantly, what doesn’t.

Now, to cater to all types of businesses, Unbounce attempts to provide templates for all industry categories. You can get various decent options for SaaS, travel, restaurant, real estate, mobile apps, e-commerce, and agency sites, among other industry types.

Well, that’s essentially one of the sorting criteria here. You can go ahead and refine your options further based on the type of campaign you have in mind. Apart from webinar campaigns, Unbounce has templates for sales pages, lead generation, lead capture, products, events, click-through, etc. Pretty much the page types we’ve explored on Leadpages.

That said, the one unique parameter here is special features. Unbounce allows you to zero-in on templates that come with specialized inbuilt elements like lightboxes, video backgrounds, and parallax effect.

Now, while Unbounce is principally a landing page tool, you’re not restricted to only landing page options. It turns out that some of the Unbounce templates are meant for sticky bars plus popups.

And just like their landing page counterparts, the sticky bars and pop up templates come with a clean, stylish, and elegant design.

All in all, Unbounce templates are well-designed and adequately-optimized not only for conversion but also flexible customization through its drag-and-drop editor.

Verdict – Leadpages or Unbounce? (Winner: Leadpages

Both Leadpages and Unbounce offer a host of templates to help you build your pages much faster. However, while Leadpages offers more than 500 free and premium templates to all subscribers, the number of Unbounce’s template options is about 125- essentially a quarter of Leadpages’.

Bother Leadpages and Unbounce also offer templates for all the major industry categories. Then in addition to that, it’s possible to sort your options on both landing page platform tools according to the type of campaign page you want to build. But, while Leadpages goes ahead filters the templates further according to their conversion rates, Unbounce allows you to focus on templates with selected features.

Another outstanding difference is the type of templates provided. Both Leadpages and Unbounce fundamentally avail landing page templates. But, apart from that, Leadpages also deals with website templates, while Unbounce offers additional templates for sticky bars and pop-ups.

Overall, the winner of this round is Leadpages because of its wider variety of well-designed templates.

Leadpages vs Unbounce – Page Editor

Leadpages Page Editor

Like we’ve established already, Leadpages comes with two editors- a classic Standard Editor, plus the recently introduced Drag-and-Drop Editor.

Standard Editor

The Standard Editor, for starters, is the original Leadpages editor. It came long before its drag-and-drop counterpart.

As the classic option, therefore, it’s not surprising that the Standard Editor is compatible with most Leadpages templates. It also turns out that it’s arguably the more popular option here. All because most users prefer to proceed with its static editing process, as opposed to the dynamic Drag-and-Drop Editor.

Now, speaking of which, the Static Editor is suitable for users who prefer a quick, straightforward, and accurate customization process. It doesn’t take much to learn the ropes and tweak a couple of layout attributes. A complete landing page, in fact, should be done in a few minutes.

Sadly, this level of simplicity comes at a cost. The Standard Editor offers a rather static customization framework with limited flexibility.

Your design capabilities, for instance, are restricted to just the basic adjustments. You can’t even introduce new elements to the layout or replace videos with images.

Drag and Drop Editor

The Leadpages Drag-and-Drop Editor, on the other hand, operates like any other typical drag-and-drop website builder. So, if you’ve tried out a similar interface before, expect an easy time with this one.

The best thing about the Drag-and-Drop Editor is that it supports extensive customization. You should be able to adjust way more site attributes than the Standard Builder possibly can and at a more advanced level.

To help you with that, the Leadpages Drag-and-Drop editor comes with two primary columns. The right section of the screen displays a preview of the page outlook, along with the changes you’ve made. And on the left column, you get tabs for Widgets, Page Layout, Page Styles, and Page Tracking.

The Leadpages Drag-and-Drop Editor

The Widgets tab, to begin with, provides a wide range of elements to integrate with your page. Then Page Layout, on the other hand, is all about layout customization in columns plus rows.

And when you need to define the finer design attributes like background images and fonts, the Page Styles tab avails just the right set of tweaks. Then finally, the Page Tracking tab comes in handy for setting up SEO parameters plus site analytics (Google Analytics, etc…)

This systematic approach to customization makes the Leadpages Drag-and-Drop pleasantly intuitive and flexible. You can build your own unique landing page or website without editing even a single line of code.

Unbounce Page Editor

The page customization process on Unbounce occurs through a Drag-and-Drop Editor. But, although its base functionality might be similar to other drag-and-drop builders, the Unbounce editor uses a different approach.

While other builders, including Leadpages’, are fundamentally optimized for simplicity, Unbounce goes beyond that and attempts to combine pretty much all critical functionalities on a single interface.

What does this mean?

Well, in essence, you’ll notice that the entire editing structure is fairly straightforward, even for non-coders. But then Unbounce doesn’t leave it at that. The drag and drop builder dives deeper to offer a wide array of editing functionalities. And the end result is a rather complex set of design tools.

On the bright side, however, at least you get more customization freedom with the Unbounce drag-and-drop editor.

Unbounce drag-and-drop editor

Well, of course, it might take you quite some time to get used to all the functionalities here. But, once you do, you should be able to achieve dynamic customizations quite easily. Then consequently, set up pages whose designs are well-aligned with your brand, down to the last detail.

Verdict – Leadpages or Unbounce? (Winner: Unbounce

The Leadpages platform comes with a static Standard Builder plus a dynamic Drag-and-Drop Editor. Although the former is fast and accurate, you can only customize so much. It can’t match up to the Drag-and-Drop Editor in terms of flexibility plus functionality. And that makes the latter ideal for users who need well-customized designs.

But, it’s not as powerful as Unbounce’s version of a drag-and-drop builder. While Unbounce loses some points when it comes to simplicity, the editor makes up for that by offering advanced functionalities. In other words, you get just the right set of tools you need to freely tweak every single element for a well-personalized outlook.

So, all in all, the Unbounce Drag-and-Drop Builder is superior to not only Leadpages’ Standard Editor, but also the corresponding Leadpages Drag-and-Drop Editor.
